Collars are an important part of Procona packaging. Alongside the container the collar determines the height of the packaging. The packaging is stackable – hence tough demands are imposed on the quality of the collar. Collars can be made of corrugated cardboard or plastic (extruded polypropylene). The Valencia and Amsterdam containers use the same collars.

The height of the collar can be selected based on the height of the container and the length of the flower stems. There are also special collars for the Valencia topframe. These fit in the edge of the topframe.

Cardboard

Cardboard collars are made of corrugated cardboard. The strength of this material is determined by the thickness of the paper used and the height of the corrugation. Collars for Florida are always made of C-corrugated cardboard – this is 4 mm high and is more rigid than other types. The paper used is also high quality.

All collars carry standard printing with the height of the collar in centimetres and in inches and the recycling symbol. Standard printing on Valencia and Amsterdam collars is always in green. Standard printing on Valencia topframe collars is always in blue. Corrugated cardboard collars for Valencia and Amsterdam containers are for once-off use.

There are two qualities of corrugated cardboard collars for Valencia and Amsterdam containers: standard and super. There is only one quality available for the Valencia topframe: standard.

Corrugated cardboard collars for Valencia and Amsterdam can be overprinted with the client’s own design. This boosts marketing-power.

Selecting the right collar height

Height of total packaging is determined by the stem length of flowers to be packed. The Valencia and Amsterdam range features various heights – so collar height can also be determined by the container height – the higher the container – the lower the collar needs to be.

In general a margin of a few centimetres space above the flower heads is needed to prevent damage to the heads. What’s more - flowers keep growing while being transported. For Valencia and Amsterdam containers the margin is 5 cm.

We advise standard collars for Valencia (short to medium distances up to 600 km) for normal flowers over land. Sea transportation requires tougher demands.

The standard quality collars for Valencia and Amsterdam come in standard heights. Other heights on request.

Valencia and Amsterdam collars super quality

We recommend these collars for distances in excess of 600 km for normal flowers and, in general for heavy and/ or short flowers (daffodils, tulips, irises) and for transportation by sea.

Super collars are marked with a printed “S” .
