Procona is ideal for use on pallets. The full height of the pallets can be used as the packages are stackable. To ensure that pallets filled with the packages are stable we recommend reinforcing the pallet as a whole. The choice of strapping is dictated by the distance to be transported. Short distances require less robust strapping than long-haul.
With short-haul transportation pallets can be strapped with vertical corner supports and (a) stretch-foil, (b) FlexiNet or (c) nylon tape. The corner supports are placed on the corners of the pallets. It is important that the stretchfoil is only wrapped around the cardboard, so that the lids and the ventilation openings in the container stay clear. This prevents any disturbance to the microclimate in the packaging. Pallets cannot be wrapped with stretchfoil. The foil is highly elastic. FlexiNet can also be used instead of foil. FlexiNet is widely used in the export of fruit & vegetables. Thanks to the large number of holes in the FlexiNet air circulation is ensured between containers. Our preference is for FlexiNet.
You can order corner supports and FlexiNet from us!
If you use nylon tape with a buckle we recommend putting the tape around the edge of the container (if all packs are the same height). This is where the pallet can be tied most tightly. Some clients insist on nylon tape as this result in less trash.
Rather than stretch foil we recommend FlexiNet or nylon tape for long-haul transporting. But where pallets still arrive in a bad condition we recommend that a note should be made on the bill of lading that in the event of part-consignments the driver must secure every back pallet with horizontal or vertical shores. A pallet with Procona packaging can be made very stable if corner sections are applied horizontally to the lids. Tests show that pallets dealt with this way are as solid as a rock. A 35 x 35 x 3 mm corner is fine on a Valencia and a London lid. The Florida lid needs a 20 x 35 x 30 mm section. These short sections are available. An aluminium 20 x 20 x 2 mm corner section can be used instead of a cardboard corner section. This works the best but is too expensive for one-off use.
