Porto is a uniquely interesting packaging option for cut flowers – but for whom?
The major problem for internet flower shops is sending the bunch or bouquet. If the flowers are sent dry they arrive at the consumer in a poor condition. Also, the delivery service does not want water spillage in the box as this can damage other packages.
With a damp tissue in a plastic bag the stems can be kept wet to a degree – this isn’t a real solution.
Porto is an ideal product here. The stems really are in water and it doesn’t matter if the box is in its side or upside down – there’s no way the water can escape. There are already a number of boxes on the market in which Porto can be securely fixed. And this keeps the flowers good and healthy – the heads can’t hit the top the box.
Porto also gives the bouquets a very professional look. Alongside actual improved quality (shelf-life), it’s also good for the image of the flower delivery product.
The Porto boxes usual carry a standard printed text. For orders of 5000 and more we can print your own texts – obviously, there’s a charge for this!
In general air-freight means dry shipping. For some varieties that’s not a problem. But in other cases the quality of the flowers is badly affected by dry packaging.
You can also use Porto for long-haul road transportation. For example, when sending flowers to Russia or other far-off destinations, flowers are often not packed in buckets – as returning the buckets is often a problem. And using water-boxes often involves high (transport) cost – due to sub-optimal loading. So, the alternative is dry packaging.
Putting these flowers in the Porto before they go in the box is a simple way of supplying their water.
This is a major contrast to the result of ‘dry-shipping’ these vulnerable flowers.
In Japan some auctions use a logistic system based on conveyor belts. When the flowers enter the auction the packages are put down flat on the conveyor belt (flat because the distance between two belts is not more than 50 cm).
To ensure that the flowers in the package get the water they need (to prevent loss of quality), the packaging for cut flowers must not leak – no matter its position.
Porto provides the ideal packaging for these auctions (in combination with boxes for Porto) – because Porto just does not leak! The main condition here is that the right quantity of water is added.
