Porto

The best way to transport flowers is in water. However, flowers are still often transported dry due to high shipping costs, or small quantities (couriers). Often when dry-transported flowers are unpacked the quality can be disappointing. With Porto you can transport flowers horizontally, in water, in a box, with zero leakage.

The Porto principleHet principe van Porto

The Porto holder comprises a plastic holder (1) with a welded lid (2) an aperture (3) and grip fingers (4). The lid features and inner rim (anti-spill ridge (5)). The Porto holder features a moisture-absorbent medium 6). This medium securely retains water, sucks it up and releases it to the stems of the flowers.

There is a suitable Porto for every thickness of stem and every quantity of stems. Depending on the thickness of the stem you can select a version of the Porto packaging. Porto comes in three versions: Porto 10, Porto 20 and Porto 50.

Standing up straight

Porto rechtopstaandIf the Porto filled with water and flowers stands upright it becomes a compact, handy package for cut flowers. The medium in the holder is soaked with the water in the Porto. The fact that the stems are in contact with the medium means they get a constant supply of water.

Horizontal

Porto horizontaalIf the Porto with water and flowers is put down horizontally it is a quite different matter. The water is unable to drain out of the Porto due to the anti-spill ridge. The stems suck up the all the water from the  medium – this is enough for between 1 and 2 days. The stems can go on drinking until the water is finished.

Medium

Without the medium the flower stems in the Porto would lay dry. The special characteristics of the medium ensure that it stays wet. The clusters of vascular cells in the cut ends of the stems absorb the water and transport it to the flower.
They keep on drinking till the water is finished.

Upside down

Porto onderstebovenThe Porto even does its work when transported head-down. Obviously we do not recommend this!

The Porto is designed so that your flowers can be transported for 2 days at 30°C. Even in these tough conditions the flowers stay perfectly fresh – as if they were in a bowl of water!

Use

Fill the empty Porto with the right amount of water. We advise adding a preserving medium to the water.

Cut off the stems at equal lengths. Insert the flowers in the opening of the Porto. Make sure that the stems are clasped firmly in the gripping edge.

Push the bunch thru into the medium so that the stems make good contact with the medium.

Compared with many other packaging products for cut flowers, Porto is a fast worker! It’s ready to use as soon as water is added. Unlike alternatives which often have to be assembled (clicked, screwed etc), Porto is ready to go.
