Packing flowers in Procona in 5 steps.

Step 1: Water

Fill the container with the required amount of water. This depends on the situation under which the flowers will be transported.

The water can be ‘dosed’ into the container in various ways – manually, semi-automatically and fully automatically. Pagter Innovations has developed a range of solutions for this.
 
On the inside of the container is a line to show the level of water. With transparent containers the water level is visible from the outside.

A preserving medium can be added to the water.

Step 2: Flowers

Put the flowers in the container. The quantity of flowers that fits in the Procona depends on the size of the Procona and the quality and type of flowers.

To ensure that the flowers remain upright in the container it is a good idea (if possible) to have the height of container at least half the length of the stems. For flowers with a 60 cm stem length, it is best to have a  35 cm height container with a 33 cm collar.

If the flowers are substantially higher than twice the height of the container, and it is important that they do not fall out of the container, a topframe offers a solution.

Step 3: Collar

Place the collar in the edge of the container around the flowers. The height of the collar will be determined by the lenght of the flower stems. Make sure that the collar is 5 cm longer than the flowers. Procona collar come in a range of heights, from 13 to 78 cm.

It is important to fold the collar around the flowers. This prevents the heads of the flowers from damage. Last of all the short flap is folded back and put in the edge of the container.

A range of card-insertion machines and tool have been developed to help position the collar around the flowers, in the edge of the containers.

Step 4: Lid

A lid is placed on the collar. The lid has plenty of openings to allow the flow of fresh, cool air around the packaging – and to allow warm air to flow out.

The lid has stacking notches to allow the next container to be stacked. This enables a high level of loading on pallets.

Step 5: Strapping

The package is closed with a strapping band.

The flowers in the package are provided with water and positioned in a protected environment with an optimal microclimate (in the package). The package is very robust and stackable.
