Porto is a unique packaging option for cut flowers - but for whom?
Internet flower shop
The major problem for internet flower shops is how to send the bunch or bouquet so it arrives in good condition. If the flowers are sent dry they arrive at the consumer in a poor condition. In addition, most express delivery services do not want water spillage in the box as this can damage other packages.
With a damp tissue in a plastic bag the stems can be kept wet to a degree, this isn't a real solution.
Porto is an ideal product here. The stems really are in water and it doesn't matter if the box is on its side or upside down, there is no way the water can escape. There are already a number of boxes on the market in which Porto can be securely fixed. This keeps the flowers in good condition and healthy because the heads can't hit the top of the box.
Porto also gives the bouquets a very professional look. In addition to actual improved quality (shelf-life), it also makes the delivered product look more appealing.
The Porto boxes usual carry a standard printed text. For orders of 5000 or more we can print your custom text. There is a charge for this!
Exporter/wholesalers
In general air-freight means dry shipping. For some varieties of flowers dry shipping is not a problem, but in many cases the quality of the flowers is affected by dry packaging.
You can also use Porto for long-haul road transportation. For example, when sending flowers from one coast to another, flowers are often not packed in buckets, because returning the buckets is often a problem. Using water boxes often involves high transportation costs due to sub-optimal loading. So, the alternative is dry packaging.
Putting these flowers in the Porto before they go in the box is a simple way of supplying water.
This is a major contrast to the result of dry-shipping these vulnerable flowers.
Growers in Japan
In Japan some auctions use a logistic system based on conveyor belts. When the flowers enter the auction the packages are put down flat on the conveyor belt (flat because the distance between two belts is not more than 20").
To ensure that the flowers in the package receive the water they need, the packaging for cut flowers must not leak in any position.
Porto, in combination with boxes for Porto, provides the ideal packaging for these auctions. As long as the correct quantity of water is added Porto just does not leak!
