Airfreight is a popular option for transporting flowers over long distances. Flowers are flown from South America to North America and Europe - from Africa to Europe and the Far East - from Australia to Japan, etc. Strong packaging is also important for air freight in view of high stacking. Air freight pallets have a high humidity level as they're often covered in sheets for protection against rain when loading and unloading. Additional actors like turbulence and bumpy landings have a significant impact on the packaging.
Adding water to airfreight packaging units can be problematic where the aircraft is also carrying passengers. Airlines often regard 'unsecured' water as a hazzard.
Pagter Innovations' packaging solutions enable you to airfreight cut flowers efficiently and safely.
With Procona and the Procona Sponge you can package cut flowers in Procona units in the usual way. Instead of adding several litres of water, a Procona Sponge with the set amount of water is placed at the bottom of the Procona unit.
This way, the stems standing on the Procona Sponge stay moist. The amount of water in the Procona Sponge will depend on the type of flower, travel duration and temperature (calculated to 'bridge' flight-time). On arrival the Procona is topped-up with water via the hand grips. This way you can be sure that the flowers in Procona are always in water, even while in the air! Re-packaging is no longer required.
Stems have access to the water in the Procona Sponge. If a packaging unit should accidentally topple over, there will be minimal if any spillage.
Pagter Innovations has developed special 40" x 48" pallets for loading air freight pallets. These fit perfectly on P-6, PIP and PAG air freight pallets and are a popular solution for maximum utilization of space on air-freight pallets. Compared with separate loading of packaging units this boosts load capacity by around 8%.
